Sweet Brown, the survivor of an apartment complex fire who “didn’t grab no shoes or nothing, Jesus,” has likely been a presence among your various “OMG LOL” email chains this week, thanks to her lovable and direct approach to emergency evacuation. Brown’s appearance in a local Oklahoma City news station piece has gotten over one million views in four days, with her drink of choice (“cold pop”) becoming all the more elusive in the American Southwest. Her name already makes her a celebrity, and like Antoine Dodson before her, has provided commentary ripe for musical parody. An auto-tune version of Brown’s “I Got Bronchitis” has arrived, and will probably be a thing in bars and on radio stations for a few weeks before it gets trumped by corgis barking to dubstep. Yes, but will she get to perform the song at this year’s Webby Awards?
