The Popdust Files: Rita Ora, tinie tempah

Chances are you’ve heard about Jay-Z’s newest Roc Nation artist, Rita Ora, the British import whose been touted as the “new Rihanna” following her high-profile singing with a pretty well known music veteran. Debut track “Party and Bullshit“—or as we’ve now come to know it, “How We Do (Party)”— has all the makings for an mega-summer hit, but alas, no official video. Lovely Rita: You can’t fully schedule a takeover unless you’re firing at your intended audience from all fronts! See your fellow Brits One Direction and The Wanted for further example. Instead of your standard party clip, Ora makes her music video debut with the Emil Nava-directed “R.I.P.,” a more subdued and slinky song that boasts newfound self-confidence after the escape from a confining relationship, and lots of impressive nail art.

Joined by Tinie Tempah, in the hope that her more established countryman can help speed up her rise, the two trade verses and work on their moves inside of an empty parking garage, suggesting they had the wrong date and time for an epic underground party announced on a neon flyer at school. Regardless of the lack of crowds, Ora dances in, on top of and around a red car, echoing styles of Rihanna from “We Found Love,” thanks to her various shades of denim and star-spangled beanie. If only every parking garage featuring some kind of impromptu performance, we’d never grumble about taking trips to the mall during Christmas season again. Watch below.
