Mike Posner: “Back to the Drawing Board” for Pop Music After Justin Bieber’s “Believe”

Add Mike Posner, hitmaking singer/wroter/other stuff guy behind “Cooler Than Me” and “Please Don’t Go,” to the list of contemporary artists turned into gushing schoolkids by The Bieb’s awesomeness. Posner, who co-wrote and co-produced his latest single “Boyfriend,” has gotten to know The Bieb fairly well over the recording of Believe, and has nothing negative to say about the teen pop star as a person, performer or potential super-cool grown-up dude. Quoth the Pos:
I think our goal was to make something that me and my friends could listen to in the car…I think we’ve all known Justin since he was 13, and that’s not the kid I was in the studio with anymore. He’s an 18-year-old. He skateboards with Lil Wayne and hangs out with Lil Twist. Those are his homies. And he listens to hip-hop and he’s a really cool kid. He’s not like a corny guy.
Well, if there’s one guy out there that knows cool, it’s Mike Posner, so if he says Bieber is the man, we suppose that Bieber really must be the fuckin’ bomb diggity. Meanwhile, Posner was also fairly forthcoming in his praise for the album he helped Justin craft, putting the rest of pop music on notice in the process.
He’s kind of bringing soul back, and rhythm and blues back and definitely hip-hop into his music. I’m really excited to see how it’s going to change the landscape, and I know a lot of artists are going to have to go back to the drawing board.
You hear that Kanye West, Chris Brown, Katy Perry? Take those master tapes and throw ‘em right out the window. Once Believe drops, it’s back to square one with the likes of you. Swaggie.
