The Popdust Files: lindsay lohan, snl

Well, reports had it yesterday that Lindsay Lohan, dormant pop songstress of classics like “First,” “Rumors” and “Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father), was going to bring The Voice back on last night’s Saturday Night Live, her first singing gig since a whole lot of weirdness in her life. But it looks like we were all a little overzealous on that one, as Lindsay did not end up testing the pipes on last night’s SNL—rather, the opening number was a spoken bit with a number of the other cast members that poked fun at the Lindsay’s unreliable rep by having SNLers like Kristen Wiig and Kenan Thompson subtly frisking and monitoring Lohan to make sure that she was gonna be good to host. TMZ is reporting now that the switch-out of the singing monologue was one of many last-minute adjustments made on last night’s episode.

Based on the reception for the Lindsay-hosted episode, though, they might shoulda stuck with the singing, or at least something else to take the heat off Lindsay the comedic actress. Lohan got panned across the internet for her stiff readings and generally absent performance. “Was this episode of Saturday Night Live the beginning of Lindsay Lohan’s comeback?” asked Noelle of Rickey.org rhetorically. “Well, she had about 10 lines the entire episode and did absolutely nothing comedic. In a word? No.” Better start plotting those Lindsay and Lana Del Rey defense sketches now, SNL.
