The Popdust Files: andrew rannells, eddie vedder, jeremy lin, josh gad, late night with jimmy fallon, parodies, pearl jam, sports

Like he did with Tim Tebow last month, Jimmy Fallon found a song that would best pay tribute to Jeremy Lin, the Knicks point guard responsible for electrifying New York City ever since the final piece of Giants ticker tape was swept off the ground. Fallon performed Pearl Jam’s “Jeremy” in the style of frontman Eddie Vedder on last night’s episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, altered slightly to emphasize the achievements of the Harvard grad and Christian rock fiend, who the host equates to an Asian Tebow. (Discuss.) “Spike Lee’s on the sideline cheering and tickets to a game cost $800 bucks / Now that the Knicks are wining, it’s a miracle,” Fallon growls. Considering what this town is like when its sports teams are in the dumps, Lin is truly a blessing to us all.

Sadly Fallon’s musical tribute was a bit premature: LeBron James and the rest of The Big Three defeated Lin and The Knicks 102-88 in South Beach Thursday night. On to the next one!

More music from last night’s Fallon: Broadway week has seen Nick Jonas and Smash‘s Anjelica Huston, leaving Tony and Grammy Award-winning Book of Mormon feeling a little left out. Stars Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad tweeted their way to Fallon’s couch on Thursday, receiving a warm welcome to the sounds of “Gimme Some More(mon)” from Questo and The Roots that should more than make up for the booker’s oversight. The duo made nice with Fallon, who presented Gad with a tasty dessert in honor of his 31st birthday, and eventually did what all three were born to do: sing. Watch their version of A-Ha’s “Take On Me” below.
