President Obama proved once again that he has what it takes to run the country for another four years, by singing “Sweet Home Chicago” during the Red, White and Blues event at the White House on Tuesday night. In similar fashion to a high school theater geek who likes to pretend she’s never ready for karaoke before belting out a rousing “Don’t Rain On My Parade” with full choreography, Obama needed a little coaxing from the legends in the room who weren’t shy about acknowledging his penchant for Al Green tunes. Triple teamed by B.B. King, Buddy Guy and Mick Jagger, Obama politely accepted the challenge of singing a few lines (“Baby don’t you want to go”) and held on for the chorus that pays tribute to his adopted hometown. Michelle is one lucky woman.
Remember, this is not the first time Obama has charmed his constituents with his smooth vocals. Screw the economy, we all really know that having a cool president is what’s most important come November. And as we get closer and closer to the general election, with more fundraising events and televised appearances, we’ll hopefully have heard his take on a few cuts off Watch The Throne—or most likely something from his not at all subtle campaign playlist.
