Katy Perry to Raise Hope Or Whatever It Is They Do on “Raising Hope”

Anybody here watch Raising Hope? We don’t, though at least of a couple of our parents and friends watch it and swear that it’s good, or that the baby in it is cute, or something like that. (From the couple minutes we see of it around New Girl episodes, seems plausible enough.) Anyway, we’ll have to watch our first episode soon, since none other than pop star and current Hot 100-topper Katy Perry will be making an appearance. EW reports that Katy will show up in a Mar. 6th episode playing “Rikki, a prison attendant who claims to be an old buddy of Sabrina’s (Shannon Woodward).” Apparently, Perry and Woodward are buds from way back, and show creator Greg Garcia via statement explains how the hookup was breached:
“Shannon told me that her friend Katy was interested in doing an episode and I thought, why not? Let’s do your friend Katy a favor…Then she came in and did a terrific job. And now people are telling me that Katy is also a singer. I sincerely hope that her appearance on the show helps her get her singing career off the ground.”
Har. Of course, two can play at that sort of wink-wink game, so Katy responds:
A couple of weeks ago, I was home, just toasting up a frozen chicken fillet when Shannon called me up and asked if I wanted to do something ‘fun’ for a change and try out a guest role on her TV show. I thought, sure, I have nothing else to do, and I like chillin’ with my best friend. Greg was nice, but I hope he’s not secretly sabotaging my potential future career by type-casting me in the role of just a looker, so that I would never be able to play anything more challenging.
All right, all right, you’re both adorable. Geez, if this is the kind of back-and-forth we can expect from Raising Hope itself, then Mar. 6th really can’t get here soon enough.
