Rather than hide from her past, Demi Lovato continues to be open with fans regarding her personal struggles. The 19-year-old singer is giving MTV and its viewers a look at her experience with the physical and emotional issues that led to her to seek treatment at rehab facility in 2010, in her new special Demi Lovato: Stay Strong. “When I first started in the industry everyone kinda just made me a role model, and I hated that,” Lovato explained. “I had so many issues underneath that needed to be taken care of.” Now that she’s more comfortable with herself and her strides towards recovery, Lovato is sharing her story and voluntarily stepping into that role model mold. Fans will hear her speak openly about her longstanding battle with depression, eating disorders and cutting, and can watch as she returns home to Dallas for her first Thanksgiving following treatment (note the term “comfortably full”). In further commitment to maintain her health and well being, Lovato has made her personal mantra more permanent, with two tattoos-”stay” and “strong”—on her inner wrists. In addition to her everyday life on the road, fans can see Lovato make a stop at the facility that helped her address her problems, speaking to its current patients. Since leaving the Illinois facility in January 2011, Lovato released her third album, Unbroken, last September and toured across the U.S. in November and December. Stay Strong debuts on MTV March 6 at 10 p.m. ET.
