What Simon Cowell wants, Simon Cowell gets. And this is what Simon Cowell wants:
Maybe the winner of @TheXFactorUSA this yr should compete with winner of The Voice & Idol in a super final. Just a thought. I’d be up for it
(To clarify, he’s talking about next season’s X Factor winner, who Cowell said would get a $5 million contract like last season’s winner, Melanie Amaro. Good to know that the major labels indeed do have millions/billions squirreled away, industry troubles or no!)
We think this is an awesome idea. We’d watch it. Call it The Sing-Off, maybe… oh. At any rate, the need for network collaboration, and the need for a total upending of the post-show process–there’s a reason why most “super-finale” shows involve contestants from long-past seasons–means that it’s probably destined not to happen. That’s Nigel Lythgoe (of Idol)’s take, too, his reasoning being that the Idol winner will “already be a star. But it’s worth mention, though, right? If there’s enough clamor for it, maybe all this crowding of the singing-competition market might accomplish something.
