Chris Brown was easily the most polarizing performer at this year’s Grammy Awards, eliciting a range of diverging yet impassioned responses following his two performances and win for Best R&B album. In the days that followed, there have been no shortage of Breezy-related headlines, thanks to his angry Twitter rants and penchant for tasteless pick-up lines. While it’s been nearly three years to the day since he was convicted of assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna, the one-time couple find themselves linked once again, as rumored collaborators on the “Birthday Cake” remix. Rihanna has been teasing the updated version of her upcoming Talk That Talk single, with producer Da Internz getting the ball rolling by telling MTV that she worked with a collaborator who would definitely “shock the world,” earlier this week. Now, Miss Info is reporting that said collaborator is none other than Breezy himself. Yep, definitely a shocker. According to her sources, Brown has recorded two verses—singing and rapping, natch—and also filmed the song’s video. We’ll allow a brief pause for full comprehension of that information.

This is not the first time we’ve heard of some sort of reconciliation between the two, be it rumored secret meetings or sporadic Twitter communication. Further complicating matters is Info’s additional report that Breezy did attend Rihanna’s 24th birthday party, and that their interaction “did not appear purely platonic.” If they plan on introducing their newest professional—and perhaps personal?—collaboration to world, expect a lot to be said and written about Rihanna’s decision to go back to an abusive partner, specifically in regard to the kind of message it sends to her younger fans. There’s no easy solution befitting of all abusive relationships or instances of domestic violence, and it’s likely both singers have heard a lot of differing opinions from their various inner circles. All we can do right now is wait for confirmation from those involved, and hope that any potential reunion, immediate or in the near future, comes with a happier, healthier end result.
