The Popdust Files: hillsong, jeremy lin, lecrae, sports
Tebowing. Cruzing. Linning. There have been plenty instances where non sports fans have been forced to give a fuck over the last six months, thanks to unbelievable performances from unlikely heroes. The latter is none other than New York Knicks’ point guard Jeremy Lin, an undrafted, Chinese-American Harvard grad who has been lighting it up at Madison Square Garden and beyond. (Did you see that game last night?!) For those who don’t care to know the difference between a field goal in basketball versus three points in football, Gawker has a useful breakdown of all the important stuff, so you can actively contribute to office conversation rather than nodding along like a serial killer.
For those who do, and then some, Fuse caught up with Lin to find out the important stuff—no, not where he’s living—like what he listens to before games. Coming from the Bay Area, there’s got to be some E-40 on the iPod, right? Maybe even Kreayshawn? Guess again. Known for being fairly religious, Lin is a big fan of Christian artists LeCrae and Hillsong, specifically their songs that help to mellow him out out—because he doesn’t like to get too pumped up before games. Well, then! We’re all entitled to our own musical proclivities, but maybe he should hold off on playing that stuff outside of his headphones once Melo returns. Watch him explain himself below.
Musical tastes aside, has Lin made enough of an impression to inspire his own soundtrack yet? Of course he has. In addition to the obvious “All I Do Is Lin,” someone should probably get to recording “BalLin,” “Linsane in the Brain” and maybe even “Linsanity” a la Mariah’s “Fantasy”? She’ll probably cry again. This streak shows no sign of stopping. FYI we’re available to lay down a verse or two here at Popdust HQ.
