The Popdust Files: Fly, glee, nicki minaj, pink friday, tv recaps
Well, it’s not exactly the Warblers doing “Super Bass”—c’mon, don’t act like that wouldn’t be the shit—but for fans of Glee and Nicki Minaj, for which we imagine the overlap to be many, it should do for now. ThatGrapeJuice reports that Nicki and Rihanna’s “Fly” will be featured in the show’s February 21st episode, the first appearance of the Queen Barbie (and the first song covered by a female rapper) on the FOX hit show. The Glee Insider tumblr posits that the song will be part of a mashup with R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly”—has Glee really not hit on that one yet?—with rapping duties handled by Darren Criss (Blaine) and Naya Rivera (Santana), and that the episode will also feature the Troubletones doing Kelly Clarkson’s recent chart-topper “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You).”
So that’s the Grammys, a new single (“Spaceships,” supposedly due Monday), a Good Morning America appearance and a Glee benchmark all in the space of a week and a half for Nicki—to go with the five Hot 100 hits she’s already appeared on in 2012. How many breakout years in a row can one artist have?
