The Popdust Files: fashion, katy perry, paul mccartney, wtf

Many fabulous famous people assembled at the L.A. Convention Center last night to pay tribute to Sir Paul McCartney, the MusiCares Person of the Year recipient. Performers included Tony Bennett, Alicia Keys, Neil Young, Coldplay, Foo Fighters and Norah Jones, but the evening was stolen by one single and sassy Katy Perry—not so much with her performance of Beatles standard “Hey Jude,” but with her mildly noteworthy ensemble. Her pink gown thing was whatever, but it was matched by a gigantic pink carnation of a hat—one which even makes the planet-sized chapeau donned by Lady Gaga in the “You and I” video seem somewhat understated in comparison. (It’s never a good sign with headwear when it looks more like some sort of spreading abcess than an actual fashion accessory.)

With this outfit serving as the opening act for this weekend, we’re certainly now very excited to see what kind of fashion plans Katy has for this Sunday at the Grammys. Maybe she can wear some sort of globe hat with the planets of the solar system rotating around it? Or maybe just a big orange traffic cone? Ah, the joys of being a celebrity past the point of giving a fuck.
