“Why, but Katy Perry and Russell Brand were already divorced!” you might be asking. Ah, but this is an official divorce, a difference of a lot of legal milestones and a lot of stories about who’s supposedly got their eye on whom to what extent. This is a divorce with legal papers signed. TMZ has the PDF of those papers, but in case you’re averse to clicking that (the papers are rather dry, not particularly searing and hosted on TMZ), here are the highlights:

* Russell Brand is not getting any spousal support–read: money–from Perry, even though she made far more than he did. This apparently wasn’t an issue for Brand, both according to gossip and to common sense: had he really wanted to get more out of this, you suspect the divorce proceedings might have ended later.

* Katy wants to go back to using maiden name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, which will almost certainly have zero effect on her performing name considering how many “Katy Brand” singles hit the charts recently. If you know Katy in real life, however, this is probably good to know!

* Katy’s signature included a heart and smiley face, which is not going to quash any rumors that she is secretly Zooey Deschanel. (But seriously, blogs: it’s just her standard autograph, not some kind of handwriting-analytic proof that she’s super-psyched about the divorce. Sorry for party pooping.)
