The Popdust Files: madonna, new york giants, super bowl, victor cruz
Super Bowl media week is filled with countless press conferences, where reporters from ESPN to Access Hollywood ask coaches and players inane questions aimed to gear up even more hype before the final game of the season. While members of the New England Patriots and the New York Giants have had to withstand repeated quizzing on injuries and girlfriends, halftime performer Madonna was put through the ringer on Thursday, doubly tested on her knowledge of football and dance. (Luckily she just filmed a music video with big guys in pads! Does that count?) During her media blitz, one reporter asked if Madge was familiar with Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, who made a name for himself this season not only with nine touchdown catches, but the memorable salsa moves he performed after each one. Why yes, you plebeian, Her Madgesty was aware—though we strongly believe not more than five minutes prior to sitting down. And to further prove she belongs in Indianapolis, atop sports biggest stage, she offered some thoughts. “I have absolutely no criticism, in fact he’s inspired me,” she explained, guns blazing. “I’ve been practicing my salsa moves and I’m going to show them to you.” And with that, Cruz’s next dancer partner was found. Careful, Victor. She likes them young.
We don’t see any salsa in “Give Me All You Luvin’,” Madge, but we’ll give you a free pass until Sunday at halftime.
