The Popdust Files: bob dylan, chimes of freedom, covers, miley cyrus
As we previously noted, the inclusion of Miley Cyrus on the Bob Dylan tribute album Chimes of Freedom is not the most unusual choice. There are three discs of head-scratchers; feel free to review. Regardless of snap judgments, Cyrus does her best to live up to the high standard set by both Dylan and partner organization Amnesty International in the official video for her cut “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go.” Set in a bare-bones apartment ripe with wires to create music and cause the occasional electrical fire when no one is looking, the song captures Miley just being New Miley, backed by a handful of like-minded musicians. She’s also doing her serious artist thing here—we can tell based on the closed eyes and seated position—sounding more country than we’ve ever heard her before. Rid your mind of the familial legacy, flashy Disney promotion, vacation shots and occasional stoner rant, and it’s like we’re meeting an entirely new person! Watch below.
