Hot off her entrance into the world on Saturday night, Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s first child, Blue Ivy Carter, has made her musical debut. Jay premiered “GLORY feat. B.I.C.”on his site Life+Times Monday afternoon, celebrating his “greatest creation” to date and providing all the confirmation we need to end the Blue Ivy/Ivy Blue debate. Upon first listen, the sweet ode to his daughter is filled with musings about her future (“A younger, smarter, faster me”), compliments to her mother (“Small pinch of Hov / A whole glass of B”) and a hint at her conception story (“You don’t yet know what swag is but you was made in Paris / And Mama woke up the next day and shot an album package”), with plenty of genuine I-can’t-believe-this-is-real new father awe in between. Despite the constant coverage ever since B dropped the mike at the VMAs, Jay’s candid lines suggest the road to procuring an heiress was longer and much harder than the public ever realized, alluding to miscarriages (“Last time the miscarriage was so tragic / We was afraid you disappeared but nah, baby you magic”) that tested his own faith repeatedly (“Everything that I prayed for / God’s gift I wish I would have prayed more”).
At the sound of a few stray cries from Blue in the outro, it’s obvious that Jay and Bey are not shying away from her entering the family business. Also, a note to all pregnant women: When you reportedly pay $1 million for hospital services, personnel doesn’t think twice about recording equipment being ushered in during delivery. We already knew this kid was going to be bigger than her parents. Wipe away those tears of joy and better acquaint yourself with Princess Carter below.
