The Popdust Files: bruno mars, concerts, covers, lmfao

If you’re befuddled as to why LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know It” has reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the second straight week, here’s a possible explanation: Redfoo and Sky Blu are beloved by their peers. Bruno Mars relied heavily on covers for his New Year’s Eve performance—hey, better late than never, right?—at The Bank Nightclub at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Backed by a full band, he managed to seamlessly intertwine Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes, two songs that sandwiched the more ridiculous tune from the ridiculous Gordy relatives—as well as an appearance by Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy.” If this isn’t an explanation of their chart success, consider it at least confirmation that these LMFAO dudes are not going anywhere for some time. They do have the power of positive thinking on their side, and the song is a lot less offensive without the banana hammocks. Watch below.

Bruno’s setlist also included covers of R. Kelly’s “Bump and Grind,” Big Sean’s “Ass” and “Super Freak” by Rick James, ensuring that at least a few people had the necessary soundtrack to welcome in 2012 in kinkiest way possible.
