The Popdust Files: 50 cent, feuds, Interscope, twitter

New year, same old problems for poor 50 Cent. This weekend we alerted you to his mounting frustration stemming from contract negotiations with Interscope Records, which led him to tweet directly to label CEO Jimmy Iovine explaining that he needs a record deal, like now. After releasing his new single “Girls Gone Wild” on Monday, 50 again took to Twitter to criticize his label’s promotional campaign:

So can we still expect that 2012 album? Amending things slightly, 50 followed his dramatic tweet with a contingency plan: “I’m going to deliver this album then I have a film I wrote to focus on I’m not upset I’m just convinced this is not how I want to remembered.” Label woes can be detrimental and discouraging to any artist, but 50′s burgeoning career in at least three other venues should leave him a bit more confident in the legacy he is creating. Music aside, it appears his Street King energy drink is currently what he’s most proud of, even if he doesn’t believe he’ll be hanging around to oversee its success. “I’ll be honest I don’t think I’m gonna live much longer. That’s why I started my Street King movement. I want to mean more in other peoples lives,” he explained. Quite the departure from the rapper who arrived boasting, “been hit with a few shells but I don’t walk with a limp.” Maybe seasonal depression is also at play?

If labels aren’t feeling his newest outputs, 50 should at least feel secure with what he’s accomplished in nearly 10 years. But to him, talking about death is healthy! “To be conscious that life is short is not suicidal. I’m good if I die tonight I’ve taken care of the people who took care of me when I couldn’t take care myself,” he added. Or, he could use all this frustration and rework his still unreleased fifth album into a Fuck You to Interscope. Feuds sell.
