The Popdust Files: coldplay, remixes, tiesto

We don’t get what it is that keeps attracting house DJs to Coldplay—well, except for everything. The hands-in-the-air riffing, the ecstastic choruses, the reliance on wordless “oh-oh-oh-oh” hooks—it’s all pretty clubby in nature. And with new album Mylo Xyloto, the DJs of the world have officially answered the call to draw out the similarities. First, Swedish House Mafia took on “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall,” and now Tiesto (DJ Magazine #1 DJ in the world from 2002 to 2004!) has remixed second single “Paradise,” doing all sorts of predictable things to it—stretching out the “para-para-pardise” chorus, layering on the synths, building up tension for the chorus and just generally trebling the fuck out of everything.

Not exactly groundbreaking stuff, but again, a logical idea taken to its natural conclusion. Can’t wait to see who ends up taking on “Princess of China.”
