The Popdust Files: boyz II men, dancing with the stars, justin bieber, under the mistletoe

There were a few headlines coming through late Tuesday night that threatened to eclipse the fact that Justin Bieber had released his Christmas album, promises to pledge some of its proceeds to charity and has a really bad new haircut. Despite what went down in the tabloids, Bieber rose above it all enough to perform “Fa La La” with Boyz II Men, live on Dancing With the Stars. Forget the shock of alleged paternity rumors—Bieber already has—Boyz II Men are singing back-up here! At least for the first verse. Bieber starts off on the floor while the show’s resident dancers Mark Ballas and Chelsie Hightower illustrate exactly what sort of feelings “fa” and “la” convey, before dragging the mic back and joining his idols for some harmonizing. After our first listen to Under the Mistletoe, we noted that Bieber lets the Boyz take control for much of the song, but here he seems to be reasserting himself at every opportunity, failing to recognize when the music has ended, before launching into one giant and unnecessary vocal run. We hear it happens to people who are stressed.
