The Popdust Files: adele, Billboard, chart achievement, patrick stump

The chart achievements keep rolling in (the deep) for Ms. Adele Laurie Blue Adkins. With another week spent at #1 on the Billboard Top 200—better luck next week, Casting Crowns—Adele’s 21 now has notched an astounding 13 weeks on top our nation’s albums charts. The run, while still falling a bit short of the 54-week run of the West Side Story soundtrack (damn, Sondheim and Bernstein must have been just printing money in the ’60s), is still the longest for any one album since the late-’90s, when a star-studded soundtrack from a movie chronicling one of our nation’s greatest disasters—that’s right, the Godzilla OST—spent 16 weeks on top.

Nah, just kidding, it was this one.

You remember, it had that song.

Anyway, congrats to Adele on her latest sales benchmark, which pushes over her four million copies total sold of 21 in the States alone. That puts her at about 4 million more than poor Patrick Stump who, despite his best promotional efforts, moved a scant 9,000 copies of his fine solo debut Soul Punk in its first week of sales. Hey, no record-buying public is perfect, and we’re glad they mostly got it right with the Adele megasales, at least. We’ll just continue to blast “Run Dry (X Heart X Fingers)” in non-violent protest.
