The Popdust Files: chris martin, coldplay, concerts

Coldplay songs are usually best experienced live, due to the band’s love of swooping choruses, mandatory crowd chanting and need for ample space so that several hundred lighters and/or iPhones can illuminate the large arena-like venues in unison. Sounds great in theory, but this can often be a problem for diehard fans who fail to procure a ticket to the band’s live show, due to scheduling conflicts, absurd prices or a moral opposition to Ticketmaster. But fear not, fellow Fair Trade enthusiasts! Coldplay’s Madrid concert will be available for live viewing globally on the band’s YouTube channel, as well as VEVO apps, on October 26, following the release of new album Mylo Xyloto. The show will be directed by music video and feature film director Anton Corbijn (The American) as part of the American Express Unstaged series. “Anton Corbijn has been a big hero to us for a long, long time, so we’re thrilled to be beaming this concert out to the world through his lens,” lead singer Chris Martin said. “It’s going to be big.”

Since the performance is being held at the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas, the famed Spanish bullfighting arena, this creates an entirely new set of ground rules for what fans should not attempt to wave in the air along to tracks like “Paradise.” But for those at home, let your red flags fly.
