Braves Announcers Make Bad Song Puns to Honor Lady Gaga Appearance

“The Braves are on the ‘Edge of Glory,’” quipped Atlanta Braves color man Joe Simpson in the midst of their game against the Philadelphia Phillies last night. “But it’s gonna take a win to get in.” It’s true that the Braves are on the precipice of MLB post-season ball, but with just a game to go in the regular season, they are now tied with the St. Louis Cardinals for the National League wild card. Offering her support in the Bravos’ hour of need, however, was one Lady Gaga, who attended the Braves-Phillies game with her new man-friend, Vampire Diaries star Taylor Kinney.

Spotted in the audience by Simpson and co-announcer Chip Caray, Gaga was left at the mercy of the broadcast team’s bad song-title puns and outsider analysis. “Is that Lady Gaga?” asked Simpson, upon the camera’s finding Mother Monster, with long blonde hair and conspicuously large sunglasses. “And she’s got her….pa-pa-pa-poker face…pa-pa-poker face…” Simpson continued, showing off his half-complete pop culture knowledge: “I wonder if, uh…the Emmys or something like that? Didn’t she come in the egg?…Did she do that tonight, or did she just show up incognito?”

Close enough, Joe. Go Phillies!
