The Popdust Files: frank ocean, swim good

Still trying to piece together yesterday’s Frank Ocean video? Might want to stop that for now and start trying for “Swim Good,” considerably more official (yes, something can be “more official” these days) than “Thinking About You,” because it’s a track off Nostalgia, Ultra that’s actually charting. What better time for Ocean to post a video?

The video, directed by Nabil Elderkin, at least tries to be somewhat faithful to its choice of cultural theme unlike the stock-plot Native American stuff in the last one. Frank Ocean is a lonely ronin with a katana, a knitted panda mask, sneakers and access to a forest via orange limo–OK, it was faithful for a while. There’s a plot involving a woman and a wolf, and you could probably figure out what roles they play just by knowing Odd Future’s aesthetic. (It’s too early in the day to add more words to the world about Ocean’s use of violence, sorry.) Someone with more specialized knowledge than us will probably translate the Japanese subtitles into English by the end of the day.
