The Popdust Files: lil wayne, MTV Video Music Awards

“Emotion. Emotion is a great inspiration for my music,” says Wayne in MTV’s latest VMA promo, using the most monotone, unemotional voice possible. Maybe we should go easy on him, it’s been a rough couple of days. While this extended clip is basically just a way to kill time until Sunday night’s festivities, it does feature music from the soon-to-be released Tha Carter IV. In between sharing his feelings, Weezy raps lines from “John“—which manages to fit shout-outs to both John Lennon and Redd Foxx in the same track—making the August 28 event seem less about Britney Spears or Amy Winehouse and more and more like The Lil Wayne Show, not that we’re complaining.
