The Popdust Files: concerts, feuds, kings of leon

It’s likely Kings of Leon won’t be welcome in Dallas anytime soon—and it’s not because they were rooting for the Thunder during this year’s NBA playoffs. KOL abruptly ended their set in Dallas on Friday after lead singer Caleb Followill walked off the stage and failed to return. Followill performed 11 songs with his band, delivering douchey comments to the crowd about how pretty his (super model) wife is and how awesome it is be be famous, before tending to his bodily urges. “I’m gonna go backstage for a second, I’m gonna vomit, I’m gonna drink a beer and then I’m gonna come back out and I’m gonna play three more songs,” he explained, generating praise for his “boot and rally” mentality. But when he never showed up—or was told he couldn’t go back on in his current state—brother and bassist Jared Followill told the crowd things would be cut short. “Caleb’s just a little unfit to play the rest of the show,” he said, conjuring disapproving screams of “that’s shitty!” from fans. “We love you guys so much, but I know you guys fucking hate us. I’m so sorry. It’s really not our fault, it’s Caleb. He can’t play the rest of the show. We will be back as soon as possible.” The venue later issued an official statement, borrowing from the Dina Lohan school of PR, explaining that Caleb was suffering from “heat exhaustion and dehydration,” which led his “vocal chords to seize.” The band canceled their Saturday show in Houston, with their next date scheduled for Tuesday night in Tampa, Fla.

But what is more troublesome is the concert’s aftermath. Jared further apologized to fans on Twitter, dropping truth bombs that suggests the band has issues more pressing than just poor nutrition or a tendency to imbibe too much before taking the stage. “Dallas, I cannot begin to tell you how sorry I am. There are internal sicknesses & problems that have needed to be addressed. No words,” he tweeted on Saturday. “I love our fans so much. I know you guys aren’t stupid. I can’t lie. There are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade.” Whether these problems stem from arguments over t-shirt designs or Caleb’s alcohol consumption, it’s about time we’ve had an Oasis-style brotherly feud to dissect. So if you find the internal feuding of this band a lot more interesting than their last album, sit tight because we’re likely in for more drama to come. With hopefully less vomit.
