The Popdust Files: album announcement, young jeezy

Remember Young Jeezy’s “Lose My Mind”? That awesomely bombastic ode to weekend debauchery that sounded like its creators were drunk because they were having so much fun (and also because they were slurring 90% of their words)? Yeah, that song will be a year-and-a-half old by the time the album it was supposed to be the lead single to, Thug Motivation 103 (hence, you know, all the “1-0-3!” shoutouts in the song) is actually finally going to be released. Jeezy made the announcement of a Sept. 20th release date for TM103 at a concert in Atlanta recently, and also revealed news of an accompanying tour with protege Freddie Gibbs today.

Nothing against the Snowman, but we’d be lying if we said that we were ever particularly excited for the release of Thug Motivation 103 even before the years of delays, and awesome as “Lose My Mind” was, the album’s purported new lead single “Ballin’” is significantly less inspiring. Still, with an incredible array of scheduled high-profile guests—Chris Brown, Andre 3000, Kanye West, Drake, Ludacris and Lil are all said to appear in supporting roles, with Kanye, Boi 1da, Alex da Kid, Lex Luger and Drumma Boy all pitching in with the production—it’ll at least be worth keeping an ear out for. Especially as a back-up plan if, you know, that other anticipated hip-hop summer release misses its scheduled late-August release.
