Did Vanilla Ice Actually Offer Words of Warning to Justin Bieber?

The Popdust Files: feuds, justin bieber, twitter, vanilla ice

If there’s one person who knows about the fleeting nature of fame and fortune, it’s Mr. Robert Van Winkle, better known to his immediate family as Vanilla Ice. The rapper, who we apparently have to listen to when he talks again thanks to his upcoming role in the Adam Sandler vehicle I Hate You Dad and his upcoming gig at the Gathering of the Juggalos, had some cautionary words for young Justin Bieber, who Ice told the Huffington Post that he can relate to due to having experienced similar (well…sort of similar) success at such a young age. Said ‘Nill:

I did ‘Ice Ice Baby’ when I was 16. So I can kind of relate a bit,” he says. “Sold over a hundred million records. And I had a weekend that lasted about three years, and I didn’t know who I was, what’s my purpose in life…So my prediction about Bieber is that he’s going to go through one of those weekends that lasts a few years because he’s had such success as a child act. You know, then something else new will come along and he’ll be forgotten and he can try to put all the pieces back together, so it’s going to be entertaining to watch.”

Or did he? On his Twitter account last night (63,000 followers!), Ice denied ever having made such claims to the HuffPo. “I just read the post that some one fabricated about me saying something about JB,” tweeted Ice. “It’s Bull ! I actually know JB and we are friends.” We’re not sure who to believe in this situation, but we would love to know what the circumstances were that led to Ice and the Bieb meeting up. Was he at the Ontarian stop of the Platinum Underground tour? Did he do a walk-on on the Surreal Life set?

Mostly, we hope that the quote is fake, because we don’t want to believe that poor Ice could possibly be delusional enough to believe that he actually sold over a hundred million records. To the Exteme only went 7x platinum, and we’re pretty sure he didn’t have too many records more popular than that one.
