Kris Allen Is Judging An Online Kidz Bop Singing Competition Now

American Idol keeps providing new proof that its rankings are meaningless. This season’s big revisionism is probably Pia Toscano becoming a zombie front-runnerbig-name producers, Kris Allen is judging Kidz Bop’s Kidz Star USA Talent Search. Whatever the hell that is.
What the hell that is is in fact an Idol-like singing competition, the end goal of which is to recruit an under-15 singer for a most likely fleeting record deal and, if he or she’s lucky, a stint at a more grown-up singing competition years down the line. You might remember this show’s precursor. It was called American Juniors. Not many people liked it. So the fact that Kidz Star is in its second year is as surprising as–well, as Kidz Bop’s continued existence. Well, they do have the market cornered for vaguely inappropriate remakes of pop hits and, at least right now, competitive kid singing. But what singing meets Allen’s standards? Because his standards are really outre:
“I’ll be looking for obviously a great voice but also someone original and unique,” said Allen. “Someone who stands out among the other contestants and grabs my attention.”
Sure, OK. How he’ll find someone with those qualities, we have no idea. Whoever he finds will still be a step down from this:
