The Popdust Files: lady gaga

Oh, for the good old days when people’s career paths just involved apprenticing themselves to hatmakers instead. Are you nostalgic yet for a time centuries before you were born? Lady Gaga is! That’s definitely why she’s going to intern with milliner Philip Treacy, whose work has previously occupied her head. What this internship will entail is discreetly left unsaid, but let it be known: Lady Gaga’s summer internship search is over.

To be clear: Lady Gaga’s going to become an intern in much the same way as Marie Antoinette became a farmer. Her job duties will likely involve showing up while being Lady Gaga, doing press while being Lady Gaga, and wearing a lot of fancy clothes while being Lady Gaga. They will not involve photocopying, fetching coffee or data entry. But it’s nevertheless admirable how well Gaga put in the grunt work of getting a summer internship. First, the public complimenting of the employer in question, which college students everywhere are copying into their cover letters as we speak:

If you were to ask me to remove my Philip Treacy hat at a party, in truth it is the emotional and physical equivalent of requesting I remove my liver.

Then, the accumulation of work experience, specifically an “editorial” “position” at Metro International. Do you think being an editor of a newspaper is far too lofty career experience to have and be hunting for internships? Not in journalism!

Then the clincher: being Lady Gaga and sending “four burly bodyguards” to scope out the office. You know, all those other things aspiring summer interns do.
