The Popdust Files: behind the music, Blake Shelton, miranda lambert

If Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez ever get tired of being music’s royal couple, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert are waiting in the wings (barring their karaoke skills). After a highly publicized (and photographed) May wedding, the longtime couple seems to be everywhere of late. But while Shelton’s gig on The Voice helped make him a household name and will likely be responsible for selling a few copies of his newest album Red River Blue (out today), his wife is looking to top him with two albumsFour the Record and Hell on Heels with group Pistol Annies—slated for upcoming release this year alone.

Personal and professional success seem to be exactly what the powers that be at Vh1 are looking for when crafting the next batch of highly addicting, in-depth documentaries for Behind the Music. Well, that and any possible scandal. In a preview for tomorrow’s episode, Lambert gushes about crushing on Blake when they first met at CMT’s 100 Greatest Duets Concert in 2005, back when he was married. Sparing no concern for the feelings of others (namely, Shelton’s first wife Kaynette Williams), friends and family join in to verify the visible sparks that flew between the country stars, before Shelton himself confirms the feelings he had for Miranda. “I’ve never had that kind of experience with anybody. I was a married guy, you know? Standing up there and singing with somebody and going, ‘Man, this shouldn’t be happening.’ Looking back on that, I was falling in love with her, right there on stage.” Oops. Lambert and Shelton have insisted that they did not officially get together until after his divorce in 2006, and while we appreciate their candor, it still comes off as slightly insensitive. But, you can’t fight true love between two honey bees. We just hope Williams isn’t watching.
