The Popdust Files: madonna
David Guetta’s already off the list of potential producers on Madonna’s new album; now we can scratch RedOne off, too. Madonna reportedly refused to work with the producer, best known for Lady Gaga’s The Fame and some increasingly scattered credits later on. It should be obvious why this was a good move. (No? MTV spells it out.)
All that’s said about the other producers is that they’re “not so famous,” which means we can probably rule out Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Ryan Tedder, Stargate and any other name you’ve read on this site more than once. We do get a list of inspirations: nu-disco group Jessica 6, Swedish electronic group The Sound of Arrows and former Gossip frontwoman and current Simian Mobile Disco collaborator Beth Ditto (yay!) So this’ll probably be a fairly lightweight dance album–and that’s a compliment, because we’re getting tired of every dance-pop song sounding like a Transformers track.
Here’s the short list of producers involved for sure:
- Martin Solveig, the producer behind our summer jam nominee “Hello” with Dragonette. The thing about Solveig is that his collaborators tend to be hit-or-miss–there’s an excellent reason why “Ready To Go” isn’t getting much love here–so this is probably more a coup for him than Madonna.
- Joe Henry, Madonna’s brother-in-law and a musician whose demo “Stop” got shimmer-painted into one of Madge’s best singles of the post-Music era, “Don’t Tell Me.”
