The Popdust Files: madonna
Madonna, she of the not-quite-wrested Queen of Pop crown, has been said to be pondering a new album for about a month now. Considering that Madonna hasn’t retired, that she’s Madonna and that almost her entire career has consisted of successive updates to her sound, the news is roughly equivalent to saying she’s still breathing or still sings from time to time while walking around the house.
The latest crumb of news? That “pondering” is now pondering in a studio, according to manager Guy Oseary in a tweet:
It’s official.. Madonna’s 1st day in the recording studio for the new album… Very exciting.. Happy 4th of july…
And this is about all we know. No, it really is about all we know–the David Guetta rumors are presumably false, because you just know that if Guetta really was working with Madonna he’d be announcing or at least hinting the hell out of it. It’s to the point where people–OK, Perez and co.–are speculating on a Madonna/Kylie Minogue teamup (to be fair, that is really mind-blowing to speculate about) based on one tweeted “Yaayyyy!”
So let’s engage in some totally different speculation! We’d say it’s fair to assume Madonna might be doing another dance album, based on her past few outings, but this is Madonna, so “fair to assume” is assuming a lot. It will be interesting, though, to see if she addresses at all (sonically, interviewing, whatever) Lady Gaga’s growing homage to/mimickry of her. Hey, maybe she’ll bring Justin Timberlake out of non-cameo retirement, too!
