The Popdust Files: bet awards, beyonce, glastonbury, sex on fire
Queen B held court with her subjects across the pond, as the headliner of the U.K.’s Glastonbury festival on Sunday. The first woman to do so, three years after hubby Jay-Z was given the same honor, B proved she was both worth the wait, as well as the money spent on a video feed into the BET Awards stateside. (Which was much appreciated considering we weren’t able to swing transatlantic airfare at the last minute.) Along with old-school Destiny’s Child hits and early solo material off Dangerously In Love, Bey covered Prince’s “The Beautiful Ones” and King of Leon’s “Sex on Fire.” She was probably in the middle of her glamorous vacation when this KOL song was utterly inescapable a year or two ago, so we’ll give her the benefit of the doubt that she’s just learning of its catchiness. But if this bro-ballad still haunts you with every local bar you visit, watch as Bey makes it immensely more tolerable with her refreshing growls and aggressive stage humping. This isn’t the first time we’ve said this—and it certainly won’t be the last—but: Best. Performer. Of. Our. Time.

For the BET Awards, B treated fans (who stayed up well past the scheduled 11 p.m. end time) to two songs off 4: “Best Thing I Never Had” and “End Of Time.” The surprisingly mesmerizing dancing in the latter made us forget that we were crossing our fingers for a performance of “Countdown” (or that she’s really going with “Best Thing I Never Had” as her second single) and reminded us that only Beyoncé can truly rock the pantsless look. (Sorry Little J and Lady Gaga.) Plus, fireworks! 4 drops tomorrow, but we completely understand if you want to start B Day today.
