Big Sean Lyrics Called “Thug Like,” Lead College Student To Lose Scholarship

While Big Sean and Chris Brown’s “My Last” is one our our top choices for Song of the Summer here at Popdust, not everyone is as thrilled with the track. A Molloy College softball player lost her scholarship because of two postings to her Facebook page, one of which included the lyrics from the Sean-Brown anthem “andd imm put this drink uppp like its my lastt,” MTV RapFix reports. 19-year-old Caitlin Ortiz is suing the school for discrimination, claiming she lost her scholarship after her former coach and the school’s athletic director Susan Cassidy-Lyke described the posting as filled with “thug like comments.” We can think of more shocking and inappropriate lyrical choices for the school to be concerned with, although our guess is that the underage Ortiz wasn’t toasting with a cup of apple juice. While the second post was allegedly a threat directed towards a housemate—and thus probably contains more grounds for punishment—it seems like Cassidy-Lyke took issue with Ortiz’s grammatical miscues the most, specifically the “typo-filled” lyric post. Molloy is an educational institution after all.
Related: Big Sean is the antithesis of “thug like” in the latest installment of Def Jam’s Uprising interview series. The Podust favorite is nothing short of precious in the clip below, discussing how big of an honor it was to perform at Hot 97′s Summer Jam earlier this month, his “aunties” back in Detroit and his grandma’s frequent and failed attempts to send him an email explaining how proud she is of him. Go ahead and add “adorable family” to the list of reasons we continue to be pumped about the release of Big Sean’s debut, Finally Famous.
You might want to help her out Sean, if only so she can tweet about your new music to all of her thousands of Twitter followers. (She never said anything about not knowing how to DM.)
