Paul McCartney First Person Ever Inspired by '00s Foo Fighters

The Foo Fighters are one of our country’s most beloved bands, and not unjustly so, but they’ve been on autopilot for most of the millennium, releasing a series of albums that nobody would ever put forth the effort to actively dislike, but that few would cite as life-changing. However, one person who apparently has taken the Foos’ latest material to heart is none other than one of the most legendary rock stars of all-time, Sir Paul McCartney, who claims his new “heavy rock album” is inspired by Dave Grohl and company’s latest effort, Wasting Light. “It sounds quite wacky, but it keeps it fresh,” quoth McCartney. “I love that, you get a crazy idea and go with it. You never know, I may run into a garage to make this other album.”
Though complimenting the Foos, Sir Paul had a snide comment in store for a rock artist a little closer to his age, when discussing his upcoming covers album (all pre-rock, supposedly—yeah, we were hoping we’d get to hear the Cute One taking on Cage the Elephant and MGMT, too). “I’ve wanted to do that kind of thing forever, since The Beatles days,” said McCartney of his planned release. “But then Rod [Stewart] went mad on it.” Macca is, of course, referring to Rod’s ultra-successful Great American Songbook series, of which he’s released five albums, setting the gold standard for aging rock stars covering even older shit. “I thought, ‘I have to wait so it doesn’t look like I’m trying to do a Rod,” explained McCartney. Damn you, Stewart!! Quit hogging all that sweet “get-home-from-work music” action.
