The Popdust Files: rihanna

Rihanna is on the cover of the issue of Rolling Stone that’s out later this week, and the magazine has released a few excerpts from the attached interview to tease its eventual release. Among the revelations: Ever the nice ex, Ri admitted that she didn’t want to make things too difficult for Chris Brown after the notorious pre-Grammy fight that resulted in him getting arrested and talking a lot about his “enemies”:

“We don’t have to talk ever again in my life,” she says. “I just didn’t want to make it more difficult for him professionally. What he did was a personal thing—it had nothing to do with his career. Saying he has to be a hundred feet away from me, he can’t perform at awards shows—that definitely made it difficult for him.”

That seems excessively nice! Although given the pop-culture media’s tendency to blow things out of proportion in an “oooh, I’m telling mama” sort of way, I can kind of see it being easier for her as well—she wouldn’t have to deal with speculation and tongue-wagging any time an industry event where both of them might be in attendance would be announced, be previewed, happen, or be recapped in the news. When you’re going through a “vulnerable” time, as Ri admits elsewhere in the interview, the most important person to be nice to is yourself, you know!
