Katy Perry Wants To Dance With Somebody (Who Is a Purple Bear)

Katy Perry’s Portuguese fans showcased their lung capacities last night as she kicked off her California Dreams tour at Campo Pequeno in Lisbon. Her ninety-minute set featured the entirety of Teenage Dream except “Hummingbird Heartbeat” and the stronger half of One of the Boys. Two-thirds of the way through the show she performed a medley of “Only Girl (In The World)” (wishing her bearcunt BFF Rihanna a happy birthday), “Big Pimpin’,” and “Whip My Hair”:
She closed out the set, naturally, with the one-two punch of “Firework” and “California Gurls.” Katy Perry emerged for the latter in a cupcake skirt, and the whole Candyland set was on hand including ten line-dancing gingerbread men. (Snoop, alas, was absent.)
But perhaps the surprise highlight of the evening was Perry’s encore: a cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” a snippet of which can be heard here. Her onstage dance partner was a fuzzy purple teddy bear with a pink bow!
2011 is looking to be Whitney’s year. She’s made peace with her late ex-mother-in-law, been cited and thanked by Lady Gaga at the Grammys, and now been covered by Katy Perry—and it’s only February!
