Fox’s singing-competition juggernaut American Idol returns tonight at 8 p.m. ET with an audition episode set at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. These early episodes are usually more notable for their collection of hopeless hopefuls than they are for spotlighting talent that goes all the way. But which singers broke out from the pack of bad singers to really, truly be awful? Here’s our video countdown of the most unfortunate auditions to grace Idol since its 2002 debut.
